50-Mile Ultramarathon

Push your limits on this challenging 50-mile trail run through the stunning Swan Creek wilderness. Experience an immersive nature journey across approximately four 13.1-mile figure-eight loops.

Marathon

Tackle 26.2 miles of diverse and memorable terrain along Big Swan Creek. This marathon features two loops of a scenic 13.1-mile course, promising an unforgettable trail experience.

Half Marathon

Embrace the beauty of Big Swan Creek's landscapes on this 13.1-mile trail run. It's an ideal endurance challenge where natural beauty meets personal bests.

6 mILER

Explore a scenic 6-mile loop through Big Swan Creek's varied terrain. This accessible run is perfect for all paces, offering a rewarding outdoor experience.

5K

Enjoy the natural creek-side beauty on our scenic 3.1-mile trail course. This 5K is suitable for both runners and walkers looking for a refreshing outdoor escape.

1 MILE

Let the kids lead the way! This fun run promotes conservation and supports our local environment, offering a great way for families to connect with nature.

Course & Race Information

Distances:

Ultramarathon – 50mi (80.5 km) – Four 13.1 mi figure 8 loops
Marathon – 26.2 mi (42.2 km) – Two 13.1 mi figure 8 loops
Half Marathon – 13.1 mi (21.1 km) – One 13.1 mi figure 8 loop
6 Mile – 6mi (9.6 km)
5K – 3.1 mi (5 km)
Fun Run – 1 mi (1.6 km)

Course: Primarily runnable trails with single and double track, creek crossings, and rolling hills. First 5 miles (1.5 miles for 6 mile loop) are more technical.
Elevation: 1,400-1,500 feet gain.
Aid: 2 full aid stations & 2 water drops (50 Mile/Marathon/ Half Marathon), 1 aid station & water drop (6 Mile).
Cutoffs (50 Mile): 14 hours (early start option, no podium eligibility). Marathon: 12 hours.
Pacers: 50 Mile runners can have pacers after mile 26.
Shirt: Guaranteed with signup by March 31st.
Course Terrain Details:
Varied Trail Types:

The 13-mile loop features a diverse terrain profile. The initial 5 miles are characterized by technical trails, alternating between singletrack and doubletrack pathways.
The 6-mile loop includes approximately 1.5 miles of similar technical trail.
The remaining sections of both loops consist primarily of runnable doubletrack logging roads.

Elevation and Topography:

The course presents a rolling topography with several sustained climbs. While generally runnable, the elevation changes can be deceptively challenging.
Lower elevations near water bodies tend to be more undulating, while ridge lines generally offer flatter sections, though exceptions exist.

Surface Conditions:

Expect multiple creek crossings throughout the course.
The course is a true trail race, not a smooth, level surface like crushed gravel or paved paths.
Trail conditions are subject to change due to weather, water levels, and seasonal variations.

Runnability:

Despite the technical sections and elevation changes, the course is largely runnable for experienced trail runners.

Please understand that trail running distances are inherently approximate. Due to the natural terrain and route variations, distances may exceed the stated mileage. Unlike the precise measurements of road races, trail courses are subject to the contours of the land. If you’re accustomed to road running, please anticipate potential discrepancies and embrace the inherent adventure of trail running. We prioritize a challenging and rewarding experience within the natural environment.

Swan Conservation Trust, an all-volunteer organization, is dedicated to preserving the natural beauty and ecological health of Big Swan and Big Bigby Creek headwaters on the Western Highland Rim. We protect diverse ecosystems, including lush forests, pristine springs, and thriving wildlife, for future generations.

We’re excited to host our second annual trail running event, our primary fundraiser for land conservation. Participants will experience the beauty of the area firsthand, running scenic trails alongside creeks and through majestic forests.

Expanding Big Swan Headwaters Preserve through land acquisition.
Maintaining and developing public access trails.
Protecting wildlife habitats and local flora.
