BIRD MONITORING

Unveiling Avian Secrets: Our Long-Term Bird Monitoring Project
In the spring of 1999, fueled by a vital grant from the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, Swan Conservation Trust embarked on a crucial bird monitoring project. This wasn't just about counting birds; it was about meticulously compiling a baseline species list of the feathered residents that depend on our protected lands.
For over two decades, our dedicated efforts have focused on identifying year-round inhabitants, summer-breeding species, and the remarkable neotropical migrants that journey thousands of miles to find sanctuary in our remote riparian corridors and associated uplands. Many of these incredible birds face increasing threats from habitat loss across the Americas. By extending our monitoring across the entire 5,000-acre headwaters protection project area, we gain an invaluable understanding of their presence, ensuring our conservation strategies offer the most impactful refuge for these vulnerable populations.
