Rare Plants

The Tennessee Division of Natural Heritage and The Nature Conservancy's Southeast Region botanist, Milo Pyne, has assisted the Trust's biologist with plant species inventories and searches for rare plants and threatened habitats.

The rare plants Parnassia grandifolia (Large-leaved Grass-of-Parnassus) and Juncus brachycephalus (Small-headed rush) have been found in the threatened seep habitats.Helianthus eggertii (Eggert's sunflower) has been found in several creekside locations; Lilium michiganense (Michigan lily) exists in isolated spots; Marshallia trinervia (Broad-leaved Barbara's buttons) grows for half-a-mile along Big Swan Creek; and a remarkable diversity of other wildflowers, ferns, shrubs, and trees have been documented in the region.
Baseline species lists of fish, aquatic invertebrates, and amphibians are being compiled as well.
